Sometimes you may want to make sure things plugged into a wall receptacle are turned off between guests. One good example is a window unit air conditioner. Suppose a guest checks out and leaves the air conditioner cranked up (or “down” as it may be) so it’s so cold you could safely store meat in the rental. That will cost a hundred dollars a day just to keep the A/C unit running! Okay, so I exaggerate a little. Still, it would be pretty costly to keep a window A/C unit running full time for a few days. With that in mind, we searched and found a pretty cool receptacle power control. It’s a simple device made by Kasa Smart and it is wicked easy to set up and use. Just plug it in, link it to your router, connect to the free app, and you (or your Front Desk) can turn the power on or off. Guests can turn the power back on with a simple press of the button on the side of the receptacle.
Here’s another one that is a little fancier and requires somebody to do a little electrical work. It replaces an existing wall receptacle and has WiFi and “Always On” power outlets.
